Hi Merel! Sounds like you have a Dutch background?

My parents are Dutch. They emigrated to Germany 35 years ago to take over a farm and I was born here.

So the farming industry is not a new world for you. Do your parents have Lely robots?

Ha ha, no. My parents aren’t convinced that robots are the answer on a large dairy farm.

Maybe you can persuade them to join a Dairy XL project, with some staff discount 😄

What are you doing at Lely now?

I am the first marketing manager ever here at the Lely Center. I have a lot of freedom to fulfil this role. Fortunately, I work closely with all my marketeer colleagues in the centers and the cluster. This year, for example, we started to do more digitally, developing webinars with, for example, a vet, a feed specialist and a Lely colleague. We are really working on this together.

Cool. Does that work well?

We started with 100 registrations for the first webinars and now there are between 400 and 500. So yes, it is definitely working!

And what do you do exactly, Gilbert?

The business controller acts as an advisor to both the financial department of a company and the business management. We use our research, analysis and experience to develop business and financial recommendations, provide budget feedback, and assist leadership in key financial decisions. This means business controllers play an important role in the economic growth of the company.

Sounds good!

Yes, I am never bored. This is your first permanent job right? Probably very different from working on the farm with your parents?

It takes some getting used to, yes. For example, I never had to do sports because I was moving around so much. Now, when I look at my pedometer, I see just 200 steps at the end of the day.

Terrible, isn't it? In that sense, Covid-19 has been positive for me. In 2020 a doctor told me that I needed to start living healthier. I started exercising. And I now run three times a week and I've lost 30 kilos.

Wow, impressive!

Maybe you should take over your parents' farm. You'll get more exercise automatically 😉

Who knows. I am seriously thinking about it. But, for now, I really enjoy my role within Lely!

Maybe those robots will turn up on your parents' farm one day after all 😀

Ha ha, maybe 😁
