20 SOLUTIONS
Following Lely founder Cornelis van der Lely’s philosophy that at least 20 solutions have to be devised for every problem, a number of socially relevant initiatives have seen the light of day thanks to Lely’s efforts.
: connecting next generations’ curiosity with engineers’ knowledge
GoDare
Young people can surprise you with their curiosity and open minds. Their unlimited creativity is a source of inspiration. On the other hand, there still is so much for them to learn. And our tech professionals have a lot of knowledge to offer. With this in mind, GoDare – former LelyKits – saw the light. A Lely and Gevasol initiative, to get the next generation interested in technology and to inspire our engineers.
Bring technology to life
GoDare is a foundation that focuses on young people between five and 25 years old. With several programmes we inspire them about technology and innovation in a fun way: from building and programming Lego robots, to assembling a go-cart including electric motor. The children are invited to the Campus, where we 'bring technology & innovation to life'.
Has van den Kieboom, head of foundation GoDare: ‘The lessons are taught by our own colleagues, the coaches, who are bursting with knowledge. By actually 'making' and working with the materials, the information is better retained. This ‘make education’, where children really work with their hands, are a great addition to the current education system.’
Partnership with Gevasol
From day one, GoDare is a partnership between Lely and Gevasol. Gevasol is an important supplier of components for our milking robots. Gevasol built its Technology Center 'Idan' in Israel in 2015: a meeting place for youth, industry and technological entrepreneurs. Mor Karassin, Idan's director, says: ‘Every week, around 750 schoolchildren come here for at least two hours to work on technological challenges. They really work together with engineers, to inspire and learn from each other. We customise all lessons for each school so they fit in with the curriculum.’
Welcome to our future technicians
A true inspiration, says Has. ‘GoDare is upgrading its current location at the Lely Campus, to create a more dynamic environment. It will comprise various R&D facilities, where we bring together our technical professionals and young people so they can discover, explore and create under one roof – just like at Idan. I can’t wait to meet all our future ‘techies’ here!’
Go Dare digital
Has adds: ‘Covid-19 forced GoDare to switch to digital programmes. One advantage: online we are no longer tied to a specific location and we can also distribute our teaching programmes. For example, at the schools of our colleagues' children.’ Do you see opportunities at your childrens school? Or would you like to support GoDare programmes as a coach? Feel free to contact Has.
- 7 primary schools participate in GoDare
- 20 programs have been developed
- 80 coaches are teaching our youngsters
- 1,350 kids have joined a program so far
