I’m good, thanks for asking.

As the marketing coordinator for our center, I could be out on farm gathering testimonials or taking photos or making videos. On other days I’ll be in the office, doing the planning and execution.

What about you, Francesca?

Well, yeah, kind of. Everything changes so quickly. What they do on the assembly line these days, I wouldn’t have a clue. Now I lead the spare parts warehouse team, so shipping and receiving is what I do all day, every day. My main task is to prioritise incoming orders and tasks for my team.

Oh wow, so you know the robots part by part?

That will be around nine years, but I still remember my first day. I was on a plane to the Netherlands to learn how to assemble a robot. I was hired as an assembler.

Okay, so I’m curious to find out who my ‘blind date’ is. How long have you been working for Lely?

Hi Jordan, good morning to you! 👋
How are you?

I absolutely love meeting and working with our customers. It’s great to see how robots have changed their lives. As a farmer’s daughter it’s good to see there is a way you can still have a life away from work, while the cows are being milked and fed at home.

I've always wondered about a role where I can actually get out onto farms more often. It’s intriguing to me.

So tell me, what are the challenges in the US at this moment?

 Cool! Well, enjoy your day!

Francesca & Jordan

BLIND DATE

Do you ever wonder about what colleagues are doing abroad? In every edition we connect two Lely colleagues. They tell about their activities and share insights. This time we link Francesca Beswick (UK) and Jordan Roose (US).

Every day Jordan Roose drove past Pella’s Lely facility on his way to work, curious about what went on in the building. Nine years ago, when he was at a crossroads in his career, he decided to find out. The words ‘innovation’ and ‘technology’ intrigued him and so he made a move into the agricultural sector, where his roots lie. He started as an assembler, now he’s Head of Spare Parts in Pella.

Francesca Beswick is the biggest fan of our customers and loves working with happy people. Luckily, she’s surrounded by many – both customers and colleagues. This farmer’s daughter started as a Marketing Coordinator with Lely Center Midlands around four years ago and enjoys how there's always something to get her teeth stuck into.

You too, Francesca! 👋

My day’s just started and I’m going to put some thought into the plans for the warehouse in the new building here, which will be opened next year 🚀

Well, I think the commodity prices farmers are being paid for their milk don't really match what it costs to actually produce it. That’s always an issue.

Well Jordan, it is the end of the day here and I have a little bit more work to do. I’m working on a social media campaign, promoting the Astronaut. So I’m going to finish that and have some tea. How about you?

Agree.

Well, when I think about sustainability, I’m thinking: how can we responsibly use our materials? For example, in the warehouse we have a lot of cardboard, plastic and old, dirty Juno tyres. What do we do with all that? Of course we can recycle, but maybe there are even opportunities to cut down on some materials used in the first place so we don't have so much to recycle. This is definitely a subject that needs attention.

Is that the same for you, Jordan?

And also, sustainability is becoming more of an important topic. We have customers asking us if, for example with consumables, there is a way to reduce the packaging. So we are always thinking of different ways to help farmers run their businesses more sustainably.

I can relate to that. In the UK we don’t have a lot of foreign labour anymore, due to Brexit. But we do have a solution for that, right? 😉
