Cluster Oceania covers Australia and New Zealand and is run by a team of 22 staff, who support and manage seven Lely Centers in Australia and four Lely Centers in New Zealand (two of which are Lely Owned).

In total, 208 Lely Astronaut milking robots, 187 Lely Luna cow brushes and 80 Lely Juno Feed pushers have been installed across the region. And of the 42 dairy farms with Lely Astronaut milking robots, 40 are grazing-based farms – the management set up used by most farmers in these two countries.

There’s plenty of potential here for wider adoption of Lely technology and services. Progress, passion, honesty, respect, and innovation are the driving forces behind our Cluster team and are reflected in how colleagues and customers are treated – and how business is done. Organisational culture is a living facet of the Cluster and is due to the team’s dedicated, professional and focused individuals.

The key challenges for the region’s farmers are the cost of labour and the climate. Automation is the way to overcome these challenges and to move dairy businesses forward.

Life at the Cluster

  • There are approximately 5,800 dairy farms in Australia, with an average farm size of 261 cows.
  • In New Zealand there are 11,372 farms, with a larger average farm size of 435 cows.
  • In total there are approximately 1.5 million dairy cows in Australia and 4.9 million dairy cows in New Zealand.

Facts

team_1.jpg

Climate is the key challenge for dairy farmers in Oceania – and Lely can help here. Heat stress management can be assisted by rumination and milk production data (yield, fat and protein). Heat stress is also a trigger for animal health issues and T4C has an early warning system, that provides farmers with ‘real time’ information via mobile apps.

Lely technology means that cows can also choose to be milked during cooler times of the day – they are not locked into fixed milking time. And, during periods of drought/reduced grazing supply, Lely systems can also assist dairy farmers when feed budgeting.

Lely also offers design support for dairy farmers who want to change their farming system, due to climate change or lack of water.

Lely Oceania has seen a huge increase in product and brand awareness since 2018. And now one of the team’s main goals is to increase the level of adoption in the region, and to create a sustainable, profitable and enjoyable future in farming.

Supporting customers and stakeholders is also vital to help them to achieve their goals. Customer satisfaction is the key and the team achieves this by working closely with the region’s Lely Centers, providing them with the training and support they need in every field including FMS, TSS, Sales and Marketing.

Happy customers are essential to the success and future growth of the business. So Lely Oceania continues to offer training and support to its FMS, TSS, Sales and Marketing teams to ensure that they are able to meet customer needs and expectations.
