Our culture is our greatest asset. It binds and connects us. Whether you work at the head office in Maassluis or in one of our Clusters around the world, and whether you are an engineer or a finance specialist, you are part of the family. We are proud of the values that we share as a family, and of our immense determination to always look further and go further. These qualities, together with our innovative strength, form the engine of our progress. We demonstrated this once again during the Lely Future Farm Days in June, when we made the best even better.
That unique OneLely feeling is something to be cherished, preserved and shared with all our current and future colleagues. It’s like how family stories are passed down through generations so that beliefs and values remain intact. We have many stories to tell. They define us. They make us ‘us’. Our culture is the driving force behind our global success.
When talking about Lely, I like to emphasise that we are still a family business and will remain so. This is enshrined in our ‘True North’: the family’s five beliefs. Like any family, we have developed our own way of working and interacting with one another. As a family, you protect each other, care for each other and stand up for each other. You embrace family values and think long-term.
Today, we are a global organisation with offices in 10 countries and with approximately 2,500 employees. That’s not even counting many others who interact with farmers worldwide every day: the employees at our 200-plus Lely Centers, our dealers and our importers. Including them, our family has around 5,500 members.
A true global organisation indeed. But what makes us successful?
Like many families, our organisation started with just two people. In 1948, Cornelis and Arij van der Lely laid the foundation for the success we know today. The shed on the family farm, just around the corner from today’s Lely Campus, soon became too small for their ambitions. The ‘family’ grew and, in 1953, our first international subsidiary was established in Canada.
