20 SOLUTIONS

Lely offers a helping hand
to employees in financial straits
with the “Red Socks” Social Fund

Following Lely founder Cornelis van der Lely’s philosophy that at least 20 solutions have to be devised for every problem, a number of socially relevant initiatives have seen the light of day thanks to Lely’s efforts.

Red Socks gives you
support when you need it

Sometimes you end up in a situation in life through no fault of your own where you’ve got nobody to fall back on. It feels like your back’s up against the wall, and you don't have the financial resources to do anything about it. At Lely, we know life can be tough, and there are times when you could use a helping hand. That’s why we set up the Red Socks Foundation.

The Social Fund is for individual employees of direct Lely entities anywhere in the world who, through no fault of their own, have ended up in an exceptional situation and lack financial resources for:

  • Special medical costs that are not reimbursed by the insurance;
  • Family caregiving for a family member at home;
  • Funeral/cremation of a close family member;
  • In the case of debts, if a one-off gift prevents eviction or disconnection of utilities.
  • Equipment: stairlift, accessible shower and toilet in an owner-occupied home for a partner, if this is not reimbursed.

The name Red Socks reflects both Lely’s corporate colour, and the socks or stockings we hang up at Christmas for Santa to fill with small gifts.

Fact      Red Socks

If you want to make an appeal to
the Red Socks Foundation*

In the Netherlands:

  • Contact ‘De Sociale Raadsvrouw’. This is a national consultancy firm, experienced in dealing with employee debts. It might be easier to turn to an outsider in the first instance in these circumstances.
  • A member of De Sociale Raadsvrouw will make an appointment with you in your home to see what exactly is needed.
  • De Sociale Raadsvrouw will submit an advisory opinion to the Supervisory Committee of the Red Socks Foundation.

In a Cluster or a LOLC:

  • Discuss the situation with someone in your organisation's management. This person can then engage Joop Ham member of the Supervisory Committee.

  • The Supervisory Committee will examine the application with the utmost care, and then submit a proposal to the Board of the Foundation. The Supervisory Committee consists of 4 members, namely the Director of Operations, Head of HR, Chair of the Joint Works Council, and a delegate from the Board.
  • The Board of Red Socks is comprised of Alexander van der Lely (chair), Martijn Boelens (secretary) and Joop Ham (treasurer and representative on the Supervisory Committee). The financial contribution (in principle a one-off) is awarded immediately after the Board's approval.

* The Red Socks Foundation is available for individual employees of direct Lely entitities; Clusters and LOLCs.
